The League was established by independent UK theatre producers to represent and promote their interests.

It sits alongside the established industry trade associations (The Society of London Theatre and The Theatrical Management Association) and exists to represent the interests of producers where they diverge from those of theatre managers and owners.  Membership is therefore limited to producers who do not have a primary interest in the ownership or operation of any theatre.

The League is a London-based body, but membership is open to all independent producers who work in the UK wherever they may be domiciled.  The fast-growing Membership embraces some of the most experienced practitioners currently working in British theatre alongside others taking their first steps in the industry. As well as representing producers in negotiations, the League provides a forum to share knowledge and educate producers starting out in the business.

The board members of the League of Independent Producers are Robert Fox, Mark Goucher,Caro Newling, Kim Poster, Greg Ripley-Duggan, Dafydd Rogers, Mark Rubinstein, Nick Salmon, Edward Snape, Adam Spiegel, Rachel Tackley and Carole Winter.
